2018 Geneva Music Festival Starts Next Week

The start of the 2018 Season of the Geneva Music Festival (GMF) is just a little more than a week away, on May 31. This year’s festival will be exciting, moving and inspirational. Opening night features acclaimed violinist Jinjoo Cho and pianist Hyun-soo Kim presenting, “La Fin De Siècle,” featuring works from the turn of the 19th century. Hear the last expressive gasps of romanticism in Chausson’s Poeme and Faure’s Violin Sonata, as well as the influence that WWI had on music in works by Schulhoff and Britten.

Jinjoo has established herself as one of the most vibrant, engaging and charismatic violinists of her generation. Gold Medalist of the 2014 Ninth Quadrennial International Violin Competition of the Indianapolis, she made her first appearance on the international music scene when she garnered the First Grand Prize and Radio Canada’s People’s Choice Award at the 2006 Montreal International Musical Competition at age 17. Times Argus of Montreal proclaimed her performance of Shostakovich Violin Concerto as possessing “an undeniable charisma and depth…with an intense lyricism and heartfelt tenderness that sent shivers up the spine.”

Kim has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and South Korea. A much sought-after collaborative artist, he has performed with eminent artists such as Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Atar Arad, Ettore Causa, Dimitri Murrath, and members of the Cavani Quartet, Miami Quartet, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony and among others.

“La Fin De Siècle” will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Gearan Center for Performing Arts on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus. Tickets for adult admission to each concert and an after-concert reception are $25 (ages 18 and under are free).  Tickets and a full concert schedule are available online: https://genevamusicfestival.com/concert-schedule/
