A letter from our director

Geoff Herd
Dear Friends,

I hope this note finds you all safe and well! This has been a sad and frightening time for all of us, with such uncertainty about the future. While I’m disappointed to announce that the 2020 Geneva Music Festival season will not be performed as originally planned, I am pleased to let you know that we will still offer music in a variety of formats throughout the summer and fall. We are renaming this season, “A Musical Offering: Our Gift During a Time of Crisis.”

Over the next six months, we will offer music through audio and video recordings as well as live-streamed formats. You will still be able to connect with many of your favorite GMF artists. We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 crisis and, as soon as it is safe to do so, we will present live concerts in venues that allow everyone to enjoy our music in a safe and comfortable way. We plan to provide several live performances throughout the Finger Lakes from September through December.

In the meantime, in June when our festival would have taken place, GMF artists will present live-streamed living room performances and Question and Answer sessions with the audience. We are happy to connect with all our beloved patrons through the marvels of 21st century technology during this time. Music is one way that we can all be together and communicate, even at a time when we must physically remain apart.

Please take good care, and if there is anything that the Geneva Music Festival can do to help you cope with the difficulties of this time, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Music can be a wonderful tonic during times of stress and anxiety, and we are dedicated to helping provide this comfort.

Sincerely,

Geoffrey Herd
